The biggest obstacle to the mass adoption of electric mobility continues to be the high prices of electric vehicles. However, this obstacle may soon be overcome as VW is preparing to launch a 100% electric model with a starting price of €20,000.
Although the German brand has not yet revealed details about the new model, the brand has now announced that the VW Board of Directors has approved the basic mobility project, with a debut planned for 2027.
“Generations of people associate the strong brands of the VW Group with their first car and affordable mobility. As a group with strong brands, we continue to take on this social responsibility to this day. That is why I am very pleased that we are launching a future-oriented project. This is basic level electric mobility from Europe for Europe,” said Oliver Blume, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, in a statement.
The first teaser of the 100% electric model being developed in Europe has now been revealed, showing a hatchback with futuristic lines, a rounded front panel, and a curved windshield flowing into a slightly sloping roof.
VW is expected to reveal more details of the new model in the coming times. However, the brand is developing a range of “electric urban cars”, which was previewed by the ID.2all concept and will arrive next year, with prices below €25,000.
