Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture created from the collaboration between Sony and Honda, took advantage of its presence at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, USA, which started on January 6, to unveil a version of the Afeela 1 that is very close to production. This is a 100% electric sedan set to hit the market in 2026.
The new model is equipped with two electric motors (one per axle), each with 224 hp, allowing for a combined output of 489 hp. The electric motors are powered by a 91 kWh battery, which can be charged at up to 150 kW, providing a range of up to 483 km.
First revealed in 2023, the 100% electric sedan from Sony Honda Mobility measures 4.91 meters in length, has a wheelbase of 3.01 m, and a height of 1.46 m. It features a suspension with overlapping triangles at the front and multi-link at the rear, along with an active rear spoiler.
The Afeela 1 is equipped with a lot of technology, and one of the innovations is the 3D motion management system, which includes robotic-based posture control technology. According to Sony Honda Mobility, this system is capable of adjusting the electric motors, braking system, and suspension to optimize comfort during driving.
Additionally, there is a bar on the hood that can function as an external screen, allowing messages to be displayed outside. Furthermore, the 100% electric model from Sony Honda Mobility features the “Afeela Intelligent Drive” system, which promises to offer level two or higher autonomous driving, using more than 40 sensors, including cameras, Lidar, radar, and ultrasonic sensors.
Inside the cabin, about 70% of the materials used are of organic origin or recycled materials. Noteworthy features include a “Yoke” style steering wheel and a generously sized panoramic screen that utilizes a customizable infotainment system, which can be activated by voice through the “Afeela Personal Agent,” allowing access to applications like Spotify, TikTok, and Zoom. Additionally, the Afeela 1 is equipped with a sound insulation system to enhance passenger comfort in the cabin.
Sony Honda Mobility has announced that the Afeela 1 will be available in two trim levels: the entry-level Origin version, which will arrive only in 2027, and the high-end Signature variant, which will be available next year.
