Lewis Hamilton shines in Ferrari SF-26 shakedown: a solid foundation for racing success

Ferrari SF-26 Shakes Up Barcelona: Hamilton and Leclerc’s Promising Debut Amidst Challenging Conditions!

In a thrilling start to the 2023 racing season, Ferrari unleashed their SF-26 on the iconic Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and the results have fans buzzing with excitement! On January 27, the Scuderia kicked off their three-day Shakedown event, putting the car through its paces under the watchful eyes of racing legends Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.

But the weather gods weren’t smiling on the Scuderia. Just 90 minutes into the session, rain descended upon the track, creating slippery conditions that disrupted the usual testing protocols. Yet, despite the wet challenges, the Ferrari team focused on reliability and system checks rather than outright speed.

Lewis Hamilton, taking the wheel in the afternoon session, completed an impressive 57 laps, nearly matching the full race distance of a Grand Prix, which consists of 66 laps. His stint saw him navigating through a dramatic array of tire conditions: he started with Full Wet tires, transitioned to Intermediates for 19 laps, and then switched back to the Full Wets for another 28 laps before wrapping up with the Intermediates again. This whirlwind of tire changes illustrated the unpredictable nature of the weather and the adaptability required by drivers.

Reflecting on his day, Hamilton expressed optimism in a press release, declaring, “It was an intense but productive first day, especially given the variable weather conditions. We managed to log a significant number of kilometers with the car and gather a wealth of useful data, which is crucial with such a significant regulatory change. There were no major issues, and this gives us a solid foundation to continue learning and building on in the coming days.”

With Hamilton’s seasoned expertise and Leclerc’s youthful vigor, Ferrari appears to be setting the stage for a formidable season. The SF-26 may have faced some weather-related hiccups, but the reliable performance and data collection bodes well for the Scuderia. As they gear up for the rest of the Shakedown, fans are left eagerly anticipating what this dynamic duo will unleash as they chase glory on the track.

The countdown to the season’s first Grand Prix continues, and with Ferrari’s revamped machine and a strong driver lineup, the competition better brace itself—Ferrari is ready to roar!
