Isack Hadjar Blazes Ahead on Day 1 of Barcelona Testing as Aston Martin’s Plans Unfold

In a thrilling kickoff to the F1 2026 pre-season testing in Barcelona, young Red Bull sensation Isack Hadjar has set the motorsport world ablaze by clocking the fastest time on Day 1. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya reverberated with excitement as Hadjar dominated both the morning and afternoon sessions, leaving his competitors in the dust. This electrifying performance marks a promising start for Red Bull as the new season looms large.

Hadjar’s impressive lap time of 1:18.159 not only places him at the pinnacle of the unofficial leaderboard but also demonstrates his prowess behind the wheel, outpacing Mercedes’ George Russell by a staggering 0.537 seconds. Alpine’s Franco Colapinto rounded out the top three, while Haas driver Esteban Ocon showcased his endurance by amassing a whopping 154 laps, the highest of the day.

Amidst the excitement, all eyes are now on Aston Martin, which has confirmed a delayed entry into the testing frenzy. Reports had emerged last week hinting at the team’s absence from the opening day of activities, and today, their official announcement revealed plans to hit the track on Thursday. This late start means the AMR26, Aston Martin’s latest contender, will only have the opportunity to participate in two of the three allowable days of testing this week. The question looms: how will this affect their performance as the season approaches?

Adding to the drama, Audi F1 faced its own setbacks as driver Gabriel Bortoleto was forced to halt his run due to a “technical issue.” Eyewitness accounts captured the moment Bortoleto’s car was left stranded on track, causing a red flag to wave across the testing circuit. The team is currently investigating the cause of the problem, having managed to complete only 27 laps on this challenging first day.

In another exciting development, McLaren revealed its striking new testing livery for the MCL40 ahead of its debut later this week. With each team allowed only three days of testing during this five-day event, McLaren opted to abstain from Monday’s session, strategically planning their entry for Tuesday or Wednesday. The anticipation for the MCL40’s performance is palpable as fans await its first appearance on the track.

As the first day of testing wraps up, the unofficial times and lap counts paint a picture of a fiercely competitive season ahead. Will Isack Hadjar’s blazing speed hold up in the days to come? Can Aston Martin overcome their late start? And how will Audi recover from their early hiccup? The answers lie just around the corner as the teams gear up for the next thrilling chapters of F1 2026 testing in Barcelona.
