An undeniable reference in motorsport, Ligier has once again inscribed its name in the annals of history by breaking three new records at the legendary Nürburgring circuit, proving that shining in the famous “Green Hell” is not only within the reach of the most powerful sports models. The feat was accomplished by the new JS50, “driven” by French journalists Nicolas Meunier and Martin Coulomb, who covered 20.832 km and navigated the 76 corners of the essential Nordschleife layout in 28’28″814 with the Revo D+ version (powered by a new diesel engine) of the French light quadricycle, in 27’55″580 with its entry-level electric variant, and in 19’53″367 with its more capable electric derivative L7e (the only one that cannot be driven by those who do not yet possess a car driver’s license, as it can reach a maximum speed of 75 km/h). With a notary from the German town of Adenau officially certifying the slower laps made on the German track…
Naturally, this was an original, imaginative, and well-executed marketing action aimed at promoting the attributes of the small JS50. For the achievement in question, in the three versions used, it featured a special preparation: exclusive exterior decoration; Nankang RC semi-slick tires, size 165/60R16; specific logos on the grille and rear gate; custom-made seat coverings; aluminum gear shift lever handle; Alcantara-covered handbrake grip; and a special steering wheel with blue inserts – the same color as the seat belts.
But, even before facing the German track, the two journalists had another challenge ahead of them, perhaps even more demanding: to cover the approximately 540 km that separate Paris from Nürburgring aboard the JS50 Revo D+. The first stop was at the Reims-Gueux Circuit, where Guy Ligier and Jo Schlesser won the twelve-hour international endurance race held there on June 24, 1966, followed by the first overnight stay to regain strength in Charleville-Mézieres, after completing 273 km. On the second day of the adventure, crossing the border into Belgium, followed by Luxembourg, 432 km after departing from Paris, and then Germany, already 450 km from the Gallic capital. At the end of the nearly 550 km traveled, an average of no more than 3.0 l/100 km – that is, without refueling, thanks to the 17-liter fuel tank!
In Portugal, the Ligier light quadricycle is available starting at €15,999 for the diesel version JS50 Revo D+ (combined consumption of 3.0 l/100 km in the WMTC combined cycle, specific to motorcycles, with a range of over 550 km thanks to the 17-liter tank); €16,199 for the electric version JS50 (battery with 8.2 kWh capacity, range of 123 km according to the same standard); and €21,999 for the electric version JS50 L7e (battery with 12.42 kWh capacity, range of 192 km, maximum speed of 75 km). Considering the interest that the unique preparation of the “record-holding” vehicles at Nürburgring has generated among the public, Ligier is now contemplating the launch of a special series of the JS50 with similar characteristics, called the “Ligier Ultimate Racing Experience.”
