VW Polo com novas motorizações híbridas

VW is working on a new generation of the Polo, the seventh since 1975, which will hit the European market after the launch of the ID. Polo, with electric powertrains, available in the second half of 2026. A source within the development program assures that the new utility vehicle will feature hybrid engine technologies (HEV) that the German brand will debut next year in the T-Roc produced in Portugal, at Autoeuropa – 1.5 Hybrid with 136 hp or 170 hp.

The sixth generation Polo has been on sale since 2017 and requires a deep update to modernize the model so it does not lose its ability to attract customers in a highly populated and competitive segment, which also means it will need to have other advantages in terms of driver assistance systems and digitalization. Martin Sanders, VW’s director for Sales, Marketing, and After-Sales, confirmed this to the British publication Auto Express: “We have no plans to end production of the Polo with internal combustion engines after we present the ID. Polo. We intend to continue manufacturing it as long as there is demand, and for as long as necessary. And the MQB-A0 platform allows for that. However, the model will receive an update”.

In other words, after the modernization of the MQB platform, an intervention that led to the MQB Evo, VW is preparing to do the same with the A0 variant, the base of the models it competes with in the B segment, to allow for the integration of many new technologies. “The task, financially and technically, is costly and demanding, but we really have to do it”, stated the same interlocutor. This update will allow, for example, the adoption of more electrified internal combustion engines. “To be competitive in Europe, we need to have models for the entire region. Norway is 100% electric, but the European market is quite diverse, especially in the south. In Italy, electric vehicles account for only 10% of sales. We must respond to customer needs and offer them the cars they want to buy”, concluded Martin Sander.
