In a recent development in the world of Formula 1, Jos Verstappen, father of current world champion Max Verstappen, has made the decision not to attend the upcoming Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. This choice comes in response to comments he made about Christian Horner, head of Red Bull Racing, who has come under scrutiny. ESPN sources reported that Horner was recently cleared of any wrongdoing by Red Bull GmbH, the team’s parent company, following an investigation into allegations of misconduct. The situation took a turn when an email, allegedly related to the case and sent from an anonymous account, leaked to the media shortly after the complaint against Horner was dismissed. Despite the controversy, Horner managed to keep his position. As a result, prominent figures in the sport, such as Zak Brown of McLaren and Toto Wolff of Mercedes, have called on Formula 1 authorities to demand more transparency from Red Bull regarding the investigation. Jos Verstappen expressed his concerns to the Daily Mail, stating that there is tension within the team as long as Horner remains in his position. He believes that the team is at risk of falling apart and that the situation cannot continue as it is. Verstappen Sr. accuses Horner of playing the victim when he is the one causing the problems. These statements came after a public altercation between Verstappen Sr. and Horner, which was followed by an apology from Verstappen Sr. He also hinted at the possibility of his son leaving Red Bull if Horner continues as team principal, amid rumors of a dinner with Toto Wolff of Mercedes. The backdrop of this drama includes Max Verstappen’s impressive performance at the Bahrain Grand Prix, where he achieved the Grand Slam, highlighting his focus despite the ongoing controversy. However, the tension within Red Bull, evidenced by Verstappen Sr.’s comments and his decision to skip the race in Jeddah, indicates a growing divide that could impact the team’s dynamics. Furthermore, Jos Verstappen’s past, which includes legal troubles and other accusations, adds complexity to the narrative involving the Verstappen family and Red Bull Racing. Despite these personal and professional controversies, Max Verstappen remains determined in his pursuit of a fourth world title, demonstrating his resilience and dedication to the sport.
