Denny Hamlin’s Bold Support for Kyle Larson and the Controversial NASCAR Policy Change

In a shocking turn of events at Darlington, Denny Hamlin has publicly thrown his weight behind Kyle Larson and the contentious NASCAR rule change regarding damaged vehicle repairs. Despite the chaos and embarrassment at the recent race, Hamlin stands firm in his support for Larson’s team, showcasing a fierce loyalty to his racing rival.

During the Goodyear 400, Kyle Larson faced a setback early on when he spun off Turn 2, leading to significant garage time for repairs. The No. 5 Chevrolet spent a staggering two hours getting back on the track, ultimately falling 160 laps behind. However, Hamlin sees this as a pivotal moment, defending the extended repair time allowed under the revised Damaged Vehicle Policy.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, who clinched victory at Darlington, benefited from the new policy himself, acknowledging the advantage it provided in crucial moments. As Larson’s team toiled in the garage, making their car race-ready again, Hamlin seized the opportunity to charge to the front and secure the win.

In a recent podcast, co-host Jared Allen slyly remarked on the impact of the DVP policy on the race outcome. Hamlin, in enthusiastic agreement, emphasized the importance of allowing teams the flexibility to repair damaged cars fully. Despite being an unexpected beneficiary of the rule change, Hamlin recognized the hard work and determination of Larson’s team in making a comeback during the race.

The No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports team used the race as a learning experience, conducting pit stop rehearsals, adjustments, and understanding pit cycles. Hamlin highlighted Larson’s team’s resilience in maximizing the opportunity to gather valuable data for future races, particularly the upcoming Southern 500.

While NASCAR aimed to empower teams with more control on the track through the DVP policy tweak, challenges have arisen. The requirement for teams to maintain a minimum speed post-repairs led to further complications, as seen in Kyle Busch’s case during the Daytona 500. The two-time Cup Series champion expressed frustration at the limitations imposed by the policy, emphasizing the need for more flexibility in the repair process.

As the NASCAR community grapples with the implications of the revised DVP policy, Denny Hamlin’s vocal support for Kyle Larson underscores the ongoing debate surrounding damaged vehicle repairs and their impact on race outcomes. Stay tuned to see how the HMS team navigates the upcoming challenges, with Hamlin’s endorsement propelling Larson into the spotlight amidst the controversy.
