The shareholder and executive director of Mercedes AMG F1, Toto Wolff, asked Christian Horner to “focus on the calculations” in response to Horner’s claim that Red Bull hired 220 employees from their Formula 1 rivals. Wolff agreed with McLaren CEO Zak Brown’s prediction that more employees will leave Red Bull after the announcement of Adrian Newey’s departure in 2025. However, Horner retaliated by stating that Red Bull’s Powertrains division attracted 220 members from Mercedes’ engine department. During a post-race interview in Imola, Wolff rejected Horner’s claim, stating that turnover is normal and the actual number is inflated. He emphasized that Mercedes’ engine department is well organized and has consistently delivered high performance since 2014. Wolff also hinted at a new era for Mercedes, acknowledging past mistakes and expressing confidence in the team’s current direction.
