The boss of the Mercedes team, Toto Wolff, expressed his satisfaction with Lewis Hamilton’s strong performance in the qualifying session of the Spanish Grand Prix. The intense competition at the front of the grid resulted in Hamilton securing third position, with pole position going to another driver and second position to yet another. Despite this, Wolff was delighted with Hamilton’s result and praised his performance.
Wolff acknowledged the tight battle for pole position, stating that it could have gone either way for the Mercedes team. He emphasized his happiness in seeing the seven-time world champion achieve a positive result in the qualifying session before the main race on Sunday.
Furthermore, Wolff highlighted that both Hamilton and his teammate, George Russell, could have finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively, considering the small difference between them and the Ferrari team. Russell even expressed his frustration with Hamilton over the team radio during the final session.
Mercedes seemed to have their sights set on victory in the Spanish Grand Prix. Hamilton had previously stated that the team was not far from being in the fight at the front. It appears that the Silver Arrows will face a tough battle against Lando Norris, who secured pole position, and Max Verstappen in their quest for the first win of the season.
Wolff admitted that the team may have been overly optimistic about their chances, as they were not three tenths of a second behind the leader in the practice sessions. However, he expressed his satisfaction with the “solid” result achieved by Hamilton and Russell.
Looking at the main race on Sunday, both Hamilton and Russell will be aiming for victory in Barcelona. However, Norris and Verstappen may have an advantage in this battle. The fans will have to wait and see how the Silver Arrows perform in the race.
