McLaren has revealed the new GTS, a model that replaces the GT and presents itself as an evolution of the well-known sports car from the British brand, focused on performance but maintaining the elegant design of its predecessor.
In this way, while keeping the elegant exterior lines of the GT, which continue to be the basis of the aerodynamic package and the profile of the new GTS, McLaren has introduced visual improvements to the new model, with emphasis on the front, where the “hammerhead” style has been updated with a new lower section of the front bumper.
This area now features new air intakes that are larger in size, with wider openings to channel even more air to the engine cooling system. The front air intake blades can be optionally made of glossy carbon fiber, reflecting McLaren’s racing DNA and giving the GTS a more aggressive look. The rear stands out for its large diffuser and a dual exhaust system.
As standard, the GTS features a glossy black finish on the exhaust system, mirror caps, and window frames, along with new GTS badges, including the new side logos, which can be painted with a black finish.
The use of new carbon fiber elements can be enhanced with a pack for the lower part of the body, which includes a front splitter, side skirts, lower rear bumper, and diffuser.
The GTS is equipped with a MonoCell II-T carbon fiber monocoque chassis, in addition, the standard composite material roof is made of recycled carbon fiber, one of the many solutions used by McLaren to reduce the weight of the GTS to 1520 kg, which is 10 kg less than the GT, in order to improve the dynamics of this sports car.
Il nuovo GTS è equipaggiato con il noto motore V8 4.0 biturbo che eroga 635 CV (15 CV in più rispetto al GT) a 7500 giri/min, mantenendo la coppia massima di 630 Nm tra i 5500 e i 6500 giri/min.
In questo modo, il nuovo modello di casa Woking presenta un rapporto peso-potenza di 418 CV/1000 kg, che consente di accelerare da 0 a 100 km/h in 3,1 secondi (0,1 secondi in meno rispetto al GT), da 0 a 200 km/h in 8,9 secondi e di raggiungere una velocità massima di 327 km/h.
Il GTS è dotato di un cambio SSG a sette velocità che McLaren afferma offrire cambi marcia fluidi e rapidi. Inoltre, il conducente può migliorare la sua esperienza di guida con due modalità di guida aggiuntive, Sport e Track. La modalità Sport introduce una maggiore dinamicità, offrendo cambi marcia più rapidi e aggressivi. La modalità Track eleva ulteriormente questo livello, massimizzando le prestazioni del cambio con una minima perdita di coppia tra i cambi marcia, che possono essere effettuati tramite i paddle montati sul volante.
Da notare anche il sistema frenante dotato di dischi in carbo-ceramica da 390 mm all’anteriore e 380 mm all’asse posteriore, che consente di frenare la McLaren GTS in 32 metri a una velocità di 100 km/h.
Nell’abitacolo, il GTS presenta un ambiente raffinato e di alta qualità che utilizza una combinazione di materiali selezionati per creare un’atmosfera di prestazioni e lusso, con particolare attenzione ai comandi in alluminio lucidato, come i paddle del cambio montati sul volante. A ciò si aggiunge un quadro strumenti digitale da 10,25” e uno schermo del sistema di infotainment da 7” con orientamento verticale.
La McLaren non ha ancora rivelato il prezzo del nuovo GTS, ma ha fatto sapere che le prime consegne del nuovo modello sono previste per il 2024.
