Fernando Alonso, from Spain, driving for the Aston Martin F1 Team AMR24, was impressed with the strong performance during the practice sessions for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. However, he remains cautious about the team’s chances for the race on Saturday. Alonso was the fastest driver in FP2, leading Mercedes’ George Russell by over two tenths of a second. Aston Martin had a strong start to the 2023 season, with Alonso securing podium finishes in six of the first eight races. However, this season has been more challenging for the team, with their redesigned car, the AMR24, only being the fifth fastest in the previous race in Bahrain. Returning to Jeddah, Alonso once again showed his pace, finishing in second place in FP1 and leading the pack in FP2. He acknowledged that it was only a practice session and that the team would need to consider various factors when it comes to qualifying. Alonso expressed satisfaction with the car and the setup possibilities for the upcoming race. He admitted he had no idea where the team stood compared to the others, as he had not seen any data. Alonso’s teammate, Lance Stroll, had a scare in FP1 when he made contact with the barriers at Turn 22. Despite this, Stroll commented that it is always fun to drive on this track. He finished the night session in sixth place, half a second behind Alonso.
