Nico Hulkenberg, a German driver, confessed that the involvement of Andreas Seidl, CEO of the Sauber Formula 1 team, played a crucial role in his decision to join the team in 2025 before Audi’s acquisition. Sauber recently announced that they had signed a long-term contract with Hulkenberg, while Audi prepares to enter F1 under new regulations. Hulkenberg made a return to F1 with Haas last season, but will now return to Sauber and reunite with Seidl, who is responsible for overseeing the transition to Audi. Seidl had previously led Porsche’s entry into LMP1 in 2015, where Hulkenberg won the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Hulkenberg revealed that he had been in contact with Seidl and even inquired about a position at McLaren when he was left without a full-time contract in 2020. When asked about the importance of Seidl in his decision to switch from Haas to Sauber and join Audi’s venture next season, Hulkenberg responded positively, acknowledging Seidl’s influential role in Audi’s management. Hulkenberg emphasized that Seidl was a direct and honest person with whom he had spoken in the past, especially during the uncertainties of the 2020 season. However, this time, Seidl was eager to hire Hulkenberg, indicating a significant change in circumstances. Hulkenberg also mentioned that Seidl and Audi’s ambition to become strong competitors upon their arrival in 2026 was an attractive prospect.
