Isack Hadjar, a driver for Campos Racing, secured consecutive victories in the FIA Formula 2 Championship at Imola. He faced a strong challenge from Gabriel Bortoeleto of Invicta, while Joshua Durksen made history for Paraguay with his first podium after moving up from FRECA. Oliver Bearman of Prema had a disappointing race, failing twice in the pits after initially leading. In the Sprint race, Argentina’s Franco Colapinto claimed his first F2 victory with a bold move on the last lap. He started ninth on the grid for Sunday’s race. Borteleto, a McLaren development driver from Invicta, started on pole position alongside Bearman and paid tribute to Ayrton Senna with a special helmet. Hadjar was involved in a multi-car incident at the start of the Sprint race, but aimed for a better start by lining up third in the main race. Championship leader Zane Maloney started sixth on the grid. Bearman took the lead early on, followed by Hadjar and Durksen. Teenage sensation Antonelli dropped to fifth at the start of the race. The top three drivers were within a second of each other when DRS was activated on lap 3. Tire management was crucial, and the leaders opted for the softer option tires. Drivers who could better manage their tires before stopping would have an advantage in the second half of the race. On lap 6, Durksen lost ground and pitted, followed by Hadjar. Maloney and Stanek also pitted. Bearman and Borteleto pitted a lap later, followed by Colapinto and Barnard. Bearman had a disastrous stop, failing twice and dropping to 21st place. Hadjar took the lead in 10th place after the pit stops, followed by Borteleto, Durksen, and Colapinto. Antonelli had a smoother stop and came out behind Borteleto, but struggled with cold tires, allowing Durksen to pass him. Cordeel became the race leader on lap 10, leading the drivers who started on the harder tires. However, drivers who started on the soft tires and switched to the harder option were expected to regain the lead. Hadjar, in seventh place on lap 12, had the fastest pace on the track. He had a two-second advantage over Borteleto and a four-second lead over Durksen. Antonelli was comfortably in ninth place. Stanek held off a group of cars behind him, including Maloney and Crawford. Crawford managed to overtake Maloney on lap 20, while Aron struggled to pass Colapinto. Crawford also passed Stanek on lap 25. Hadjar remained in seventh place, with Borteleto close behind. Durksen and Antonelli were comfortably in ninth and tenth place, respectively. Cordeel had a significant lead over the rest of the pack, but his race was ruined when his right rear tire came loose during a pit stop. Martí also had a similar issue. Meanwhile, Hadjar and Borteleto battled for the win. Borteleto tried to overtake Hadjar on the final lap but was unsuccessful, and Hadjar held on for a well-deserved victory. Borteleto secured his first podium, while Durksen finished third, becoming the first Paraguayan driver to reach a podium in F2. Antonelli finished fourth, matching his best result, and Colapinto in fifth. Aron, Crawford, Correa, Martins, and Verschoor completed the top-10.
