In turns 9 and 10, he recovered another tenth of a second and knew he needed to give his best in the final two corners. This effort was crucial, as the competition was fierce within a two-tenths difference, with six cars vying for the lead in that group. Despite the imperfections, Alonso expressed satisfaction with his lap and his performance in qualifying.
Alonso believes that if he had avoided the mistakes at the beginning of his Q3 lap, he could have closed the gap between him and the two Red Bull drivers. However, he anticipates that Aston Martin’s performance in the race will not match their qualifying position. He expects to drop to seventh, eighth, or ninth place, which he considers the natural order of things. Alonso admitted that the team is currently slower than Ferrari, McLaren, and possibly Mercedes, despite often outqualifying them. He emphasized the need to wait and see how quickly the other teams catch up and how long they can defend their positions.
