During the event, Trump was seen alongside Richard Childress, the owner of the Richard Childress Racing Hall of Fame. He received a warm welcome from fans and even took photos with Childress’s grandson and the driver of the Chevy No. 3 before the race. Trump watched the race from various locations, including the pit box, VIP stands, and the track’s roof.
This was not his first appearance at a motor racing championship in the 2024 season, as he was also a special guest at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami with the McLaren Racing team.
Before the race, there were concerns among NASCAR fans that Trump’s presence could cause issues for driver Kyle Larson, who was attempting to participate in the Double. However, there were no airspace restrictions that would delay Larson’s trip from Charlotte Airport to the track, allowing him to fly back and take over the No. 5 car in the middle of the race.
Unfortunately, the race was interrupted by a rain delay, adding to Larson’s disappointment after finishing 18th in the Indy 500.
