are currently the most devastated drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series paddock. He lost the Kansas Cup race to Hendrick Motorsports
on Sunday by a tiny margin of 0.001 seconds. This marks the closest arrival in the history of stock car racing and probably the closest a driver can get to finishing in second place.
Coming in second place in a race or in any other sport is often the most demoralizing thing for an athlete. What exacerbates the situation for Chris Buescher is the fact that he started celebrating after crossing the finish line, believing he had won, only for NASCAR to review and declare Kyle Larson as the race winner. After the disappointing weekend, he spoke with the NASCAR Hall of Fame
about how deeply hurt he is.
He confessed on the Dale Jr. Download podcast that the defeat will haunt him for a significant period of time and admitted feeling nauseous on the way home. Buescher acknowledged that if he had known immediately after finishing that he had not won, it would have been easier to accept and move on.
When discussing moving forward, Chris Buescher mentioned that someone advised him to overcome the pain in the next six days. Therefore, he is trying to find a way to win the next race in Darlington to bury the feeling once and for all.
The entire RFK team can sympathize with Chris Buescher and will be more motivated than ever to secure a victory in this weekend’s race in Darlington. They need to maintain their momentum by achieving at least a top-five result to stay in good shape and seek a spot in the playoffs.
