Stellantis will produce a new hybrid version of the electric 500e at the Mirafiori factory in Turin, Italy, starting in the first quarter of 2026.
The confirmation of the decision came in a statement from Stellantis, after CEO Carlos Tavares held a meeting in Turin with union representatives who had long been requesting the company to increase production at the historic Fiat factory.
Currently, the Mirafiori production unit produces the 500e model, but a global slowdown in sales of fully electric vehicles led Stellantis to significantly reduce production volumes, introducing extended periods of work stoppages.
Carlos Tavares emphasized the importance of offering «affordable and high-quality cars to Italian customers, which involves working on Stellantis’ competitiveness together with its suppliers and Italian institutions.»
Stellantis also mentioned that the development of affordable models also depends on external factors, «such as the cost of energy, the network for charging 100% electric vehicles, and market support tools, as well as activities to encourage conversion and requalification.»
Furthermore, the statement also mentioned that a new hybrid version of the Jeep Compass will be produced at the Melfi factory in southern Italy.
“La ambición compartida con el gobierno italiano de alcanzar un millón de vehículos producidos en Italia para 2030, requerirá un entorno de negociación favorable, actualmente condicionado por las incertidumbres de la electrificación y la fuerte competencia con nuevos operadores de mercado”, concluyó el comunicado de Stellantis
