Renault confirmed this Wednesday, November 15, that it will launch the new generation of the Twingo in 2026, with an exclusively electric motorization, based on a platform developed by Ampere, the company created to design, develop and produce the 100% electric vehicles of the Renault Group.
With a style reminiscent of the first generation of the Twingo, the concept revealed by Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault and Ampere, during «Capital Day», already shows a model very close to production, which will be developed and produced in Europe.
Luca de Meo confirmed that the new Twingo will have a production cost 50% lower than a new C-segment SUV, due to the reduction of materials and a software-based platform that will require the use of fewer parts.
Without many technical details about the new 100% electric Twingo, Luca de Meo made it clear that the model will have consumption of 10 kWh/100 km, as well as a 75% reduction in CO2 emissions over its lifecycle compared to European internal combustion models, and that the price will be less than €20,000.
Ampere is the new start-up created within the strategic plan Renaulution of the Renault Group, which officially started at the beginning of November with the aim of becoming the first European operator of electric and pure software vehicles.
The mission of Ampere is to democratize electric vehicles in Europe, making them accessible to everyone. For this, the new company will be based on 15 years of experience in electric vehicles to design 100% electric vehicles, equipped with cutting-edge software technology for the European market.
Remember that Renault has already announced that it will exclusively market 100% electric models in Europe from 2030, with the goal of selling one million electric vehicles in 2031.
To achieve this goal, the reduction in costs per electric vehicle by 40%, or more, by 2027 will play an important role, and it is in this sense that Ampere will carry out its work in order to offer attractive products at the best price.
