Max Verstappen, from the Netherlands, driving for Red Bull Racing, competed in the Formula 1 World Championship in Montreal, Canada, on June 8, 2024. This took place during the qualifying day of the Canadian Grand Prix.
Helmut Marko, an advisor for Red Bull, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to handle the growing competition from other Formula 1 teams. He mentioned that updates to the car will be introduced soon. Red Bull’s dominance has been challenged in recent races as other teams, such as McLaren and Ferrari, have emerged as strong competitors. Even Mercedes, after facing setbacks early in the season, has become a recognized contender. Red Bull’s weakness in terms of curb driving has been exposed in unconventional circuits, but it is expected that they will regain their position as a reference in the upcoming races, where the car’s aerodynamics play a crucial role.
Marko wrote in his SpeedWeek column: «I believe we are making progress in terms of front suspension.» He mentioned that the upcoming races in Spain, Austria, and England will provide a clearer picture of the performance of the different race cars. These races take place on classic tracks, unlike the previous races in Miami, Imola, Monaco, and Montreal, which had atypical circuits.
Although Red Bull’s advantage has been reduced, Marko emphasized that the team is not worried. They have promising developments planned for the car based on data analysis. While McLaren and Mercedes showed strength in Canada, Ferrari faced some challenges. Marko attributed these performance fluctuations to specific cars, tracks, and the ability to optimize tire performance under different conditions.
