Ausente from major Formula 1 title wins since 2008, Ferrari is slow to truly return to the fight for titles. After the good campaign of 2022, it seemed possible to launch the candidacy this year, but even with the new leadership of team boss Frédéric Vasseur, the results and performances worsened.
Faced with the pressure of results, leadership changes have been somewhat common in the Scuderia over the past few years. One of those who lasted the longest at the helm of the Maranello team was Jean Todt, who defended to Canal+ that changing frequently may not be positive:
– Ferrari is a team that is a bit different because it creates emotion and passion like no other. So, if it doesn’t work, the tendency is that with the pressure from the press and the tifosi [fans] that we have to change [leadership], it’s not necessarily a good thing.
Todt has no doubt that stability was a key ingredient in the successful years during which he led Ferrari: ‘I think that at the time when I was the boss, one of the advantages that I could have and that later allowed us to be successful was precisely that we could benefit from stability’.
