Sergio Perez achieved a second consecutive second place in the 2024 season in Saudi Arabia. Red Bull had an almost flawless performance on Sunday in Jeddah, securing a 1-2 result in the Saudi Arabian GP. The race was won by their driver who started from pole position, while Perez finished in second place, 13.643 seconds behind the winner. However, there was a moment during the race where Perez’s solid performance could have been ruined by another driver. The former Red Bull driver spun in a chicane on lap 49, but it was not a significant incident that warranted a caution flag. Fortunately, the driver managed to avoid the car hitting the barriers, avoiding major consequences. Helmut Marko, an advisor at Red Bull, expressed his concern when witnessing the spin, knowing that it could have negatively impacted Perez’s race.
During the Saudi Arabian GP, rumors emerged about a possible suspension of Helmut Marko as Red Bull’s advisor. However, it seems that his position is secure for now. However, negotiations are still planned between Marko and Red Bull’s majority shareholder, Chalerm Yoovidhya. It was suggested that Mercedes could have a spot for Marko, as they are without a senior advisor since the passing of a Formula One legend. Marko appreciated the offer from Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, but made it clear that he is currently content at Red Bull. Wolff commented casually on Marko’s situation, as his contract with Red Bull has not yet been finalized. The Austrian advisor is currently happy with his position at Red Bull, although he may face challenges in sharing power with team principal Christian Horner.
