Surprisingly, it was Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes who topped the FP1 session. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was not surprised by this development. He explained that with the third year of ground effect regulations, some convergence in competition was inevitable.
After dominating the previous two seasons, Red Bull faced stronger competition as rival teams gained more knowledge about their expertise. This led to a more competitive environment for the team.
In Monaco, qualifying sessions are usually action-packed and highly competitive for pole position. Red Bull has shown good pace on a single lap, with Max Verstappen securing pole positions in all races so far. However, with the improved pace of rival teams, Horner expects a challenge for the front row start in Monte Carlo.
Horner emphasized that he expects competition during the qualifying session of the Monaco Grand Prix. He highlighted the circuit’s unique layout and the importance of a strong qualifying lap. Red Bull is under pressure to continue improving their performance and stay ahead of their rivals.
