Zoox, the autonomous vehicle company owned by Amazon, has called back 270 robotaxis for a voluntary “recall” following an accident involving an unoccupied autonomous vehicle in Las Vegas recorded on April 8.
Zoox reported that there were no injuries in the accident and that it was due to a failure in the autonomous driving systems, which in certain driving scenarios, “can make an inaccurate prediction when another vehicle approaches slowly from the side and brakes suddenly.”
Zoox halted operations for several days awaiting a safety review of the incident and developed a software update to address the issue.
It is worth noting that last April, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) closed an investigation into 258 units of Zoox’s robotaxi due to a braking issue that forced the company to implement a software update.
