Zhou may have support from Geely for the future of Alpine F1.

Zhou Guanyu claims to enjoy the support of Chinese automotive giant Geely, a partnership that could secure his position in Formula 1. While Zhou is currently contracted to Sauber until the end of the season, rumors suggest that the Hinwil team is considering other options to partner with Nico Hulkenberg in 2025. However, Geely’s involvement could offer Zhou a chance in Formula 1, given their collaboration with the Renault Group through co-ownership of HORSE, an automotive powertrain division established in May. Zhou discussed Geely’s support for his career during the Spanish Grand Prix, highlighting their shared interests in motorsports and Formula 1. While Geely’s connection to Alpine does not guarantee Zhou a place in their Formula 1 team, if Geely’s interest in the series intensifies and rumors of an Alpine sale materialize, Zhou would be a suitable candidate. Zhou, who was previously a Renault Academy driver during his Formula 2 days, stated that he is exploring all options and determining the best course of action for his future in Formula 1. While his main priority is to remain on the track next season, no concrete details have been confirmed yet. Zhou’s performance in the 2024 season has been weak, as he has not scored any points and has only made one appearance in Q2 of qualifying in the first 10 races, largely due to the lack of competitiveness of his Sauber car.
