McLaren CEO Zak Brown is confident that the 2025 Formula 1 season will be nothing short of extraordinary. With McLaren coming off an exhilarating Constructors’ Championship win, which saw them edge out Ferrari in a dramatic season finale, Brown is backing a closer, more competitive season ahead. The Woking-based team, which experienced a resurgence in 2024, is setting its sights on both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships this year—perhaps even eyeing a 1-2 finish between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

In a statement to the media at the F1 75 season launch event in London, Brown revealed his high hopes for the upcoming season. “We’d like to go for the Constructors’ and the Drivers’ World Championship. And why not be greedy and have that be 1-2,” he said, referring to his desire for Norris and Piastri to battle it out for supremacy within McLaren.

Predicting an “Epic” Season with Multiple Winners

Brown’s optimism isn’t limited to his own team’s performance. The 2025 season, according to Brown, will be one of the most competitive in recent years. “I think this season should be epic and even closer than last year,” he predicted. The 2024 season featured seven different winners, with four teams sharing the spoils. Brown anticipates eight winners in 2025 and hinted that teams outside the top four could shock the world.

The increasing competitiveness of the lower teams, which were able to disrupt the leading quartet in 2024, will continue into the new season. “Every weekend last year, while the top four teams were always at the front, there always seemed to be someone that was able to disrupt,” Brown observed. With the regulations remaining stable and maturing, he believes that the surprise winners could come from more than just Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes, and McLaren—teams like Aston Martin, Alpine, and others could seize an opportunity and break into the winner’s circle.

Lando Norris: Expecting a Tight Fight and New Winners

Lando Norris echoed Brown’s optimism for the upcoming season, noting that the grid is set to get even more competitive as teams close the gap. “I think you’re probably going to have this season some winners that aren’t top four teams,” Norris said, emphasizing that the spread between the front-runners and the midfield has been narrowing. The Briton acknowledged that as regulations remain unchanged, the middle pack will only continue to close in on the front-runner teams, providing fans with a more unpredictable and thrilling race season.

However, Norris also expressed concern over the potential shake-up of the sport’s balance with the introduction of new regulations in 2026. He noted that while 2025 promises to be a fierce and exciting year for F1, the landscape could change dramatically in the years ahead. “It’s a shame that it all changes in 2026, because I’m expecting it to be a good season and tough for all of us,” Norris added.

McLaren’s Focus: Innovation and Relentless Improvement

Despite the successes of 2024, McLaren isn’t resting on its laurels. Zak Brown highlighted the team’s ongoing focus on innovation and performance improvement in preparation for 2025. “We see a few tenths can make a huge swing,” he said, acknowledging the importance of every incremental gain in the hyper-competitive world of F1. McLaren is keenly aware that the competition is fierce, and with so much progress made over the past year, they know others are capable of catching up quickly.

“We’re just head down, very focused, not taking anything for granted, working very hard, but working really well together,” Brown stated. The atmosphere at McLaren’s factory is described as energetic and driven, with an emphasis on innovation and pushing boundaries. The team is not slowing down and is well aware that nine teams are vying for progress as the season unfolds.

A Highly Competitive 2025: What to Expect

With McLaren’s determined attitude, Lando Norris‘s ambition, and the unpredictable potential of surprise winners, 2025 promises to be an action-packed season. From the midfield to the front of the grid, the fight for supremacy will be fierce, with McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari leading the charge, but always with the possibility of another team breaking through to steal a victory.

The combination of a solidified top pack and the potential for shock results makes for a highly anticipated year in F1, and Zak Brown is backing the competition to be closer than ever. Fans should brace themselves for an epic season, where every race could bring new excitement, surprises, and contenders to the fore.
