Yuki Tsunoda’s Disappointing Qualifying Result at Japanese Grand Prix Unveiled

Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda faced a setback during qualifying at Suzuka, failing to advance to Q3 and getting eliminated in Qualifying 2. The Red Bull rookie, who replaced Liam Lawson after just two races in the 2025 season, had high hopes of impressing his home crowd but will start the race from P15.

Despite setting up his Red Bull with a focus on race performance rather than qualifying, Tsunoda expressed his frustration at not being able to secure a better grid position. The young driver admitted that he struggled with the Red Bull car, similar to his predecessor Lawson.

In a post-qualifying interview with Sky Sports F1, Tsunoda shared his disappointment, stating, “There was pace to go through to Q3 today, I just wasn’t able to put it together in the end.” He also acknowledged the challenges of driving the Red Bull, emphasizing its narrowness compared to the Racing Bull’s car.

Team principal Christian Horner, however, remained optimistic about Tsunoda’s performance, noting the competitiveness the driver showed earlier in qualifying. Despite the setback, Horner praised Tsunoda’s potential and believed he could deliver a strong race performance.

In a surprising turn of events, Max Verstappen clinched pole position in Japan, outshining the McLaren cars that had shown superior pace throughout the weekend. As Tsunoda prepares to start from the 15th position on the grid, all eyes will be on his performance during the Japanese Grand Prix.
