Yuki Tsunoda Defies FIA with ‘Ridiculous’ Penalty – Dramatic Grid Drop Drama

Yuki Tsunoda Blasts FIA with Fiery Criticism over Harsh Penalty

Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda is not holding back in his criticism of the FIA stewards for what he deems a “ridiculous” penalty imposed on him for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix. The Red Bull racer expressed his frustration after receiving a 10-place grid penalty for an incident during the final practice session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

The controversy unfolded when Tsunoda overtook McLaren’s Oscar Piastri under red-flag conditions, following Piastri’s collision with the notorious ‘Wall of Champions.’ Piastri’s damaged car was crawling back to the pits, leaving debris on the track after suffering a punctured tire. Despite the hazardous conditions, the stewards deemed Tsunoda’s actions unjustifiable.

Tsunoda defended his decision to overtake Piastri, citing the potential danger of staying behind the McLaren and risking debris hitting his own car. The Japanese driver argued that he took necessary precautions, ensuring a safe distance and speed while passing Piastri. He expressed bewilderment at the severity of the penalty, labeling it as “ridiculous.”

The penalty will force Tsunoda to start from the 20th position on the grid, a significant setback after qualifying in 11th place. This marks the second time in four races that Tsunoda faces a similar grid penalty, adding to his frustration and disappointment.

Despite the setback, Tsunoda remains determined to make up positions during the race. He acknowledged the challenging circumstances but expressed his resolve to overcome the adversity and deliver a strong performance in the Grand Prix.

The incident has sparked debate within the racing community, with fans and experts weighing in on the fairness of the penalty. As Tsunoda prepares to navigate the grid from the back, all eyes will be on his performance and whether he can stage an impressive comeback in what promises to be an action-packed race in Montreal.
