Yuki Tsunoda’s F1 Future in Jeopardy as Ayumu Iwasa Shines Bright!

In the high-octane world of Formula 1, the spotlight is shifting dramatically, and it’s not falling on the drivers you might expect. As Red Bull Racing celebrates a championship triumph, a stinging allegation has emerged against Yuki Tsunoda, raising questions about his future in the sport. Once heralded as a promising talent, Tsunoda’s position now hangs by a thread, especially with the meteoric rise of fellow Japanese racer Ayumu Iwasa.

Tsunoda’s journey began with Red Bull, where he debuted with the AlphaTauri team in 2021, now rebranded as Racing Bulls. This junior squad has historically served as a grooming ground for future stars, preparing them for a coveted seat alongside four-time champion Max Verstappen. However, the path to success has been fraught with challenges, including notorious mid-season driver changes that have plagued the team in recent years.

After just two races in the 2025 season, Tsunoda was promoted to the main Red Bull team, filling the void left by Liam Lawson, who failed to meet expectations alongside Verstappen. Yet, the reality of competing against the Dutch powerhouse has proven to be a near-impossible feat for Tsunoda, as the entire setup is tailored to Verstappen’s preferences.

Enter Ayumu Iwasa—a rising star whose recent triumph in the Super Formula Championship has sent shockwaves through the F1 paddock. At the season finale in Suzuka, Iwasa not only clinched victory but also secured two pole positions, decisively defeating defending champion Sho Tsuboi in the standings. This victory marks a pivotal moment in Iwasa’s career, and he’s eager to leverage his newfound championship status as he contemplates his future in motorsport.

Iwasa’s race engineer, Tomohiko Koike, didn’t hold back in praising his driver’s exceptional talent, suggesting he could be the answer to Red Bull’s ongoing search for a competent second driver. “Iwasa is getting better and better,” Koike stated emphatically. “In terms of his driving skill and his approach towards racing, he was better than last season. This season he has been very consistent, and I would say his average performance has been the best of any driver, better than Tsuboi and Kakunoshin Ohta.”

Koike’s endorsement raises eyebrows, particularly when he boldly claims, “It’s quite easy to imagine him in Formula 1. I think he would be better than Tsunoda.” His assertion that Iwasa possesses not only superior driving skills but also remarkable car setup abilities could spell trouble for Tsunoda, who is already facing scrutiny.

As the F1 championship nears its conclusion, only Verstappen’s place on the Red Bull team is secure, leaving Tsunoda, Lawson, and junior driver Isack Hadjar in precarious positions. Iwasa’s impressive performances are compelling Red Bull to reconsider its options for the upcoming season.

With every passing race, the pressure mounts on Tsunoda, who must now contend with the undeniable talent and potential of Ayumu Iwasa. Will the young Japanese driver secure a seat in Formula 1, or will Tsunoda’s time in the sport come to a bitter end? As the drama unfolds, one thing is clear: the competition is fiercer than ever, and the stakes have never been higher!
