Yuki Tsunoda blasts ‘very harsh’ penalty for defending Lando Norris: a title race scandal unfolds

Yuki Tsunoda’s Battle Cry: “Very Harsh” Penalty Sparks Controversy in Abu Dhabi Showdown!

In a stunning twist during the adrenaline-fueled climax of the F1 2025 season, Yuki Tsunoda has taken to social media to vent his frustrations over a “very harsh” penalty that overshadowed Lando Norris’s monumental championship victory. As the dust settles on the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the drama continues to unfold, with Tsunoda questioning the FIA’s decision-making process after finding himself penalized for a daring attempt to slow down the McLaren star.

Norris, who clinched his first-ever F1 title in breathtaking fashion, finished the race in third place, just behind his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri and the race winner, Max Verstappen. Despite dominating the season with eight victories—one more than Norris and Piastri—Verstappen fell agonizingly short in the championship standings, missing out by a mere two points.

The tension escalated when Red Bull called upon Tsunoda to execute a tactical maneuver—blocking Norris after his pit stop. However, the Japanese driver’s aggressive tactics caught the attention of race stewards, leading to a controversial five-second penalty for making multiple directional changes in defense. Tsunoda, who ultimately crossed the finish line in 14th place, expressed his exasperation at the ruling, stating, “It’s a shame we couldn’t end the year on a high, especially with a frustrating penalty.”

In a heartfelt message to Norris, Tsunoda extended his congratulations, acknowledging the gravity of the moment. “A big congrats to Lando on the championship and Max on the win,” he wrote, but the sting of the penalty lingered. He voiced his intention to thoroughly review the incident, insisting, “I kind of have an idea why they applied a penalty, but at the same time, I have to really review if it actually deserved a five-second penalty or not, because it cost my race massively today.”

The drama didn’t stop there. Tsunoda revealed that Red Bull’s pit wall was buzzing with urgency, as his race engineer implored him to keep Norris at bay. “I could tell the stress from them, but I was like: ‘Look, I know what to do. We talked about it,’” Tsunoda recounted. His efforts to defend against Norris were valiant, but ultimately, they proved futile as Norris executed a brilliant move to overtake him.

Reflecting on the race strategy, Tsunoda speculated whether he should have altered his tactics to delay Norris in the slower final sector, but he concluded that the gap was simply too significant to make a difference. “He was also quite far away… I thought I could hold on one more lap, but he did well,” Tsunoda lamented.

Adding insult to injury, Tsunoda and Red Bull faced scrutiny earlier in the weekend for another incident involving Norris during FP2, where Tsunoda was notably slow on track. This miscalculation led to a €10,000 fine for Red Bull, as they failed to alert Tsunoda of the approaching Norris, highlighting the mounting pressure and miscommunication within the team.

As the F1 world digests the ramifications of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, questions linger about the FIA’s penalties and the impact they have on the sport’s integrity. Tsunoda’s bold declaration of a “very harsh” penalty may resonate with fans and drivers alike, igniting a heated debate about fairness and strategy in Formula 1 racing.

Stay tuned as we continue to follow the fallout from this electrifying season finale!
