Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda Left Baffled by Lack of Speed in F1 Spain Practice

Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda expressed his bewilderment after the Formula 1 practice sessions at the Spanish Grand Prix, confessing, “I don’t have any idea why I’m slow.” Despite experiencing smooth sessions without apparent issues, Tsunoda found his ultimate pace lacking and struggled to comprehend the reasons behind it.

During the sessions, Tsunoda faced challenges with sliding at both axles, resulting in being six tenths slower than his teammate Max Verstappen in the soft-tyre qualifying simulations. Analysis of GPS data revealed a notable deficit in speed through specific turns compared to Verstappen.

Tsunoda shared his perspective on the challenging day, saying, “It was tricky… I just don’t have any idea why I am slow.” He acknowledged making progress but felt uncertain about the exact limitations affecting his performance. The Red Bull driver expressed his determination to find solutions despite the difficulties he faced during the practice sessions.

On the other hand, Verstappen described his Friday as “OK” and highlighted a more positive feeling compared to previous run-ins this season. Although he still sought improvements to feel completely comfortable in the car, Verstappen was content not to feel “out of it” after the initial sessions.

As the Red Bull team analyzes data and works on improvements for the upcoming sessions, both Tsunoda and Verstappen aim to enhance their performance and competitiveness on the track. The search for speed and precision continues as the drivers push themselves to overcome challenges and strive for excellence in the highly competitive world of Formula 1.
