Young Guns Take the Stage: Andrea Kimi Antonelli Joins Hamilton’s Mercedes for Mexico GP Practice

Mercedes’ rising talent Andrea Kimi Antonelli, freshly 18, is set to climb back into Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes W15 for the opening practice at the Mexico City Grand Prix. Antonelli’s debut at Monza showed glimpses of promise before a crash at Ascari brought his session to an early end. However, Hamilton remains steadfast in his confidence in the young Italian, dismissing any concerns about the rookie’s second outing. “Kimi is young, and he’s learned from Monza. I’m here to support him however I can,” Hamilton assured.

Hamilton advised Antonelli to approach Friday’s session with patience. “There’s no need to push from the first lap; the track’s going to be dirty early on,” he explained. The advice underscores Hamilton’s mentorship as Mercedes’ next generation gears up for another shot at F1 glory.

Antonelli isn’t the only rookie set to shine in Mexico City. Haas will feature Ollie Bearman, Felipe Drugovich steps in for Aston Martin, and Robert Schwartzman will take the wheel for Sauber. Mexican IndyCar star Pato O’Ward, filling in for McLaren’s Lando Norris, will have the crowd roaring as he performs on home turf. Norris expressed excitement about O’Ward’s participation: “He’s helping us as a team, and it’s great he gets to do it here in Mexico in front of his fans.”

With support from seasoned drivers like Hamilton and Norris, this weekend’s FP1 promises a thrilling glimpse into the future of F1. Fans at the iconic Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez can look forward to fresh talent lighting up the track and possibly marking the dawn of new F1 legends.
