Malukas ainda em recuperação, Ilott pronto para desafio de $1 milhão

Callum Ilott, despite not having a permanent position, has been consistently seen in the IndyCar races in 2024. Arrow McLaren has confirmed that he will have a second opportunity to drive an IndyCar early in the season. This comes as he fills in for the $1 million challenge at Thermal Club. Ilott was already with the team in St. Petersburg for the season opener and will continue to drive the #6 car while David Malukas recovers from his injuries. Malukas dislocated his wrist in a mountain bike accident in February and is expected to take about seven weeks to fully recover. The confirmation of Ilott’s participation in the upcoming showcase event and test session was only given on Thursday, as he and his doctors assess his progress. During the season opener, Malukas was present with the team but did not drive the car due to his injury. Ilott performed well in his temporary role, finishing in 13th place and contributing solid points for the team. Before the $1 million challenge on March 24th, Ilott will join the rest of the Arrow McLaren team for a private test day at Barber Motorsport Park on March 18th. His involvement with the team has proven crucial as he has helped veterans Pato O’Ward and Alexander Rossi with test setups and making adjustments that benefit the entire team for the rest of the season. After his time with McLaren, Ilott will resume his duties as a driver for the Jota team in the Hypercar class of the WEC for the remainder of the year. Malukas is expected to fully recover in time to make his debut for Arrow McLaren in the second points-paying race of the season, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, on April 21st.
