Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins are scheduled to participate in a test of a new Yamaha M1 MotoGP bike next week, after the Spanish Grand Prix weekend.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Quartararo signed a two-year extension with the Japanese company, ending rumors linking him to Aprilia.
The French rider will be rewarded for his loyalty to Yamaha, as the factory has made several modifications to the bike, which will be tested in the upcoming test.
According to a team member, Yamaha will test a new engine, chassis, swingarm, and aerodynamics on Monday, essentially a completely new bike.
Yamaha test rider Cal Crutchlow has already tested some of these components in a private test last week in Barcelona.
Unfortunately, the test did not go well due to poor weather conditions, with several days of rain hindering progress.
Both Quartararo and Rins also participated in a test in Portimão, but once again, the weather limited their track time, and they only managed to complete a few laps.
During this test, the team only had one power unit available for testing, which demonstrates the recent improvements made by the manufacturer.
If the weather allows, Yamaha hopes to gain a better understanding of their updates as part of their long-term strategy to regain a competitive position on the grid.
