XPeng, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, seems to be preparing a range of extended-range electric vehicles (EREV) to meet the demand from customers who are not yet ready to transition to 100% electric mobility.
The first model with this type of powertrain, internally named G01, is expected to be unveiled by the end of the year, and will be based on the X9 MPV minivan, featuring the new Kunpeng system, which promises up to 430 km in 100% electric mode and up to 1,400 km in total, thanks to the combustion engine that acts as a generator.
However, “CarNewsChina” has now revealed images of a version of the G6 coupe SUV from the Chinese brand, which is also sold in Europe, that supposedly uses an extended-range hybrid powertrain, expected to hit the market in 2026.
The same source revealed images of a camouflaged prototype “caught” at a gas station, which reinforces rumors that the EREV version is already in the testing phase.
If confirmed, this new variant would represent a shift in XPeng’s current strategy for the G6, which only offers electric models.
