Xiaomi has just recruited Kai Langer, the former design director of BMW with over two decades of experience in creating some of the most distinctive and innovative models in the German brand’s portfolio.
Langer confirmed the news through his LinkedIn profile, stating that this will be a new challenge in his career. “After more than two decades at BMW Group and many incredible projects and responsibilities that I had the pleasure of working on, I decided to take the step towards a new challenge. Since August 1st, I have joined one of the world’s most progressive and promising tech companies”, wrote Langer.
The designer added that “Xiaomi, already established in the technology and consumer electronics market, and with a thrilling debut in the automotive industry, is expanding its business and offering me the opportunity to be an important part of the team. I am very curious about the possibilities I will have to continue building a bright future…”
For now, the position that Kai Langer will occupy in Xiaomi’s structure is not known; however, given his experience, it is likely that the designer will take on an important role in the future models of the Chinese brand. It is worth noting that Kai Langer played a crucial role in the development of the design language of BMW’s electric models, having had a predominant role in the design of the BMW i3 and i8, and more recently, he took on the creative leadership of the Vision Neue Klasse concepts, which point to BMW’s future electric models.
