Just over a month after launching its first 100% electric car in the Chinese market, mobile phone manufacturer Xiaomi has just announced that it has reached 10,000 units produced of the SU7.
The electric sedan, announced as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3, which on the day of its launch allowed Xiaomi to receive over 50,000 orders in just 27 minutes, forced the company to create a waiting list of seven months and rethink its production strategy to try to produce more models than initially planned in order to keep up with the high demand.
According to company data shared on social media, reservations for the SU7 have already reached 75,723 units, just 28 days after its launch.
The Chinese company has already announced that it will increase production of its 100% electric model in order to deliver 100,000 units of the SU7 by the end of the year.
The new SU7 is a sedan, was presented in December 2023, and is based on Xiaomi’s Modena platform, which was designed to support 400-volt and 800-volt electric architectures, as well as transmission systems with one or two motors.
Equipped with electric motors developed in-house by Xiaomi, the SU7 is currently available only in the Chinese market with two versions. The entry-level version has an electric motor installed on the rear axle, with a power of 300 hp and a torque of 400 Nm, powered by a 73.6 kWh battery. This version can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.28 seconds, reach a top speed of 210 km/h, and has a range of 628 km to 668 km in WLTP cycle.
The more powerful version is the SU7 Max, which uses two electric motors, one on each axle, providing all-wheel drive. It has a total power of 645 hp and a torque of 838 Nm, using a 101 kWh battery supplied by CATL. This version offers a range of up to 800 km, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 265 km/h.
