The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) is set to introduce a new points system for the 2025 season, designed to give greater weight to overall rally victories while retaining the adrenaline-packed excitement of Super Sunday and the Wolf Power Stage. The updated format promises to enhance the championship’s intensity and reward consistent top performances.

“More Points for Overall Winners”

Under the new system, a perfect rally weekend will now earn a maximum of 35 points, an increase from the 30 points available in 2024. The allocation for the top ten finishers has been adjusted to 25-17-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1, emphasizing the importance of securing the overall win.

  • Super Sunday Changes: Points on Super Sunday will be awarded to only the five fastest drivers, with a reduced allocation of 5-4-3-2-1.
  • Wolf Power Stage Unchanged: The popular Wolf Power Stage retains its format, continuing to award 5-4-3-2-1 points for the fastest times.

“Why the Change?”

The revised system was approved by the FIA World Motorsport Council on December 11 and builds on the success of the 2024 season.

“This updated system builds on the general success of the 2024 format, which delivered unforgettable moments and fierce title fights,” said Peter Thul, Senior Director of Sport at WRC Promoter. “We’ve made subtle but meaningful adjustments to further reward rally wins and ensure the competition remains as thrilling as ever. Fans can expect even closer battles and dramatic finales in 2025.”

“A Global Calendar with New Adventures”

The 2025 WRC calendar features 14 rounds, including three exciting new locations: Spain, Paraguay, and Saudi Arabia. The diverse schedule promises challenges across a variety of terrains, from the classic European stages to the exotic landscapes of South America and the Middle East.

“What This Means for the Championship”

The revamped points system is expected to:

  • Incentivize Rally Wins: Drivers will prioritize overall victories, knowing the larger points haul could make or break their championship bids.
  • Keep Fans Engaged: With the Wolf Power Stage and Super Sunday still in play, the format ensures dramatic finales and fan-focused moments.
  • Tighter Title Fights: By rewarding consistent top performances, the system aims to keep the championship battle alive until the final stages of the season.

“A Thrilling 2025 Season Ahead”

The changes mark another step in the WRC’s evolution, ensuring the championship remains one of motorsport’s most exciting series. Fans can look forward to nail-biting battles and dramatic finales as drivers push harder than ever to maximize points and claim the coveted title.
