Max Verstappen expressed his joy after securing the first position in qualifying at Imola after a challenging day on Friday. Verstappen, who faced several difficulties during practice sessions, was able to overcome them with the help of the Red Bull team. This allowed him to deliver an exceptional performance during the qualifying session and clinch pole position.
During practice sessions, Verstappen encountered issues related to the balance and grip of his car at the Imola circuit. However, the qualifying session told a different story, as the current world champion set the fastest lap. Reflecting on the tough weekend he had experienced, Verstappen mentioned that Red Bull made some changes to the RB20 before qualifying, which ended up turning the situation around for him.
As a result, Verstappen was extremely pleased to secure pole position at the Italian circuit. This meant he would start the race on the front row, unlike his rival who disappointingly qualified in 11th place. Verstappen described the experience of pushing the RB20 to the limit at the Imola circuit as amazing and stated that he was full of adrenaline after such a dominant performance in qualifying.
The entire paddock paid tribute to Ayrton Senna’s legacy and the 30th anniversary of his fatal accident at the Emilia Romagna GP. In honor of Senna, everyone in the paddock wore special t-shirts, except Verstappen, who was seen wearing a Red Bull shirt during the tribute.
However, Verstappen later shared that his pole position had a special meaning for him. He considered it even more remarkable than his strong start to the season, as it coincided with the celebration of Senna’s 30th anniversary. This made the achievement even more significant for Verstappen, and he expressed his satisfaction with the result.
With his pole position secured, Verstappen is expected to have a smooth race at the Emilia Romagna GP. He is predicted to deliver another dominant performance and secure an easy victory in Italy. Although Red Bull has made significant improvements since the challenging Friday sessions, Sergio Perez will need to step up his game on Sunday.
