Wolff: Mercedes Formula 1 car designed to challenge Red Bull.

Wolff: Carro de Fórmula 1 da Mercedes projetado para desafiar a Red Bull.

Lewis Hamilton, British driver of the Mercedes AMG F1 W15, made a pit stop during the Formula 1 World Championship race at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy, on May 19, 2024.

Toto Wolff, the Team Principal of Mercedes, believes that their car for the 2024 season has the necessary foundation to challenge Red Bull according to the current Formula 1 regulations.

Despite optimism that the new car design has addressed previous issues, Mercedes has been struggling with inconsistent performance of their car.

In the Imola race, Lewis Hamilton finished 35 seconds behind the winner, Max Verstappen, solidifying Mercedes’ position as the fourth fastest team on the grid.

However, the Mercedes team remains positive about their future prospects. Team member George Russell revealed that they had overcome past issues.

With recent updates implemented and more to come, Wolff is confident that Mercedes is on the right track with their new development approach.

“We are gradually improving the car with the incremental upgrades we are introducing. It’s not a sudden dramatic improvement, but rather small gains of a tenth or a second and a half. However, we also have to acknowledge that other teams are also progressing,” Wolff stated.

He added: “We can see that we are moving in the right direction. It’s not a linear progression, but as long as we are heading in the right direction, I am more confident now.”

Mercedes has been struggling to find a balance between high and low-speed corners with their car in the early stages of the season.

However, Wolff sees this recurring issue as a positive development. Understanding the reasons behind the performance deficit is a big difference compared to previous seasons.

When asked if it was a mistake to seek a quick fix in the past, Wolff admitted: “Yes, I think we never had such clear indications as we had in recent races. We saw that the car was fast in high-speed sections or low-speed sections, but never both together. Now, we have the ability to gradually address this issue.”

Despite previous disappointments, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is hopeful that there will be no unexpected setbacks this time. Wolff emphasized the importance of having a stable platform, a car that provides a clear direction for development. He acknowledged that in the past there were moments of optimism that turned out to be false starts. However, he believes that this time there is something fundamentally different that has given the team more confidence. However, Wolff also recognizes that nothing in sports is guaranteed and there is still work to be done to improve performance.

Wolff is confident that the stable platform provided by the W15 car allows the team to focus on improving performance rather than dealing with issues. When asked if the team now has a solid foundation to catch up with Red Bull in terms of aerodynamics, Wolff responded positively. He explained that the car design is more conventional, allowing them to have a clear understanding of where they want to generate downforce and improve aerodynamic efficiency. This advantage sets them apart from the past two years.

The Formula 1 driver, Lewis Hamilton, achieved another spectacular victory at the Monaco Grand Prix this Sunday. The British driver from the Mercedes team once again showed his skill and determination, dominating the race from start to finish.

Hamilton started in pole position and did not give any chances to his opponents. He led every lap of the race and crossed the finish line with a lead of over 10 seconds to the second-placed driver.

With this victory, Hamilton extends his lead in the championship. He now has a 20-point difference to the second-placed driver, his teammate Valtteri Bottas.

The Mercedes driver is in excellent form this season. He has already won three out of the six races held so far and seems unstoppable. His performance in Monaco was simply incredible and shows that he is the favorite to win the world title once again.

Aside from Hamilton, other drivers also stood out in the race. Max Verstappen from the Red Bull team finished in third place, securing another podium for his team. Sergio Perez from Racing Point came in fourth, followed by Sebastian Vettel from Ferrari in fifth.

The next race of the championship will be the Canadian Grand Prix, which will take place in two weeks. Hamilton will arrive as the favorite, but his opponents will not make it easy for him. It will be an exciting competition and fans can’t wait to see what will happen in the upcoming races.
