Wolff: Mercedes accelerating to bring improvements to the F1 vehicle of 2024.

Lewis Hamilton, the British driver for Mercedes AMG, competed in the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami, Florida, USA, on May 5, 2024. The head of the Mercedes team, Toto Wolff, expressed that their factories are working at full capacity to address the issues with the 2024 Formula 1 car. Despite introducing a revised floor on the challenging W15, Mercedes had a disappointing performance in the sprint race, with Hamilton finishing in sixth place and George Russell in eighth, while McLaren, one of Mercedes’ engine customers, emerged as the winner. However, Wolff is confident that Mercedes has a good understanding of their problems and is actively working on developing new parts to address them. He emphasized the team’s commitment to accelerating development and production to improve the car’s performance. While there are no quick fixes, Wolff assured that Mercedes is dedicated to finding solutions and will release updates when they are ready. Russell, on the other hand, believes that Mercedes may have overcompensated for the shortcomings of their previous car and gone too far in the opposite direction with their latest concept. Wolff acknowledged this, admitting that the car no longer bounces and performs well at high speeds but struggles at low speeds. Despite the challenges faced, Wolff remains optimistic about the progress made and the direction the team is heading in.
