Toto Wolff Drops Bombshell Comments About Christian Horner’s Departure and Max Verstappen’s Future

In a shocking turn of events, Toto Wolff has made some explosive comments regarding the recent departure of his longtime rival, Christian Horner. The absence of Horner from the Red Bull pit wall for the first time since 2005 has left many in the Formula 1 community stunned. Wolff, never one to mince his words, remarked to Sky UK, “In a way, I will miss him. He was one of the key players. He was a controversial, polarizing figure, and his outspoken nature was entertaining. We will miss that. His results, however, speak for themselves.” But that’s not all – Wolff went on to jokingly say, “I don’t think he has left the paddock for good. He might reappear in some other role. I have to be careful, he could join the FIA, and then I would really be in trouble.”

As if that wasn’t enough drama for one day, reports from Auto, Motor und Sport and the Daily Mail suggest that Max Verstappen is leaning towards staying with Red Bull until 2026. Journalist Michael Schmidt revealed that Verstappen, after initially being denied by Horner, has been given the green light to explore his options for 2027, once the landscape of the new regulatory cycle becomes clearer. Wolff hinted at this possibility when he stated to Sky UK, “As the team principal of Mercedes, I have to focus on the drivers and understand what Max will do in the coming years, not just in 2026. The idea of a Verstappen-Russell pairing next year is highly unlikely, if not impossible. We want to stick with Kimi and George; everything else is unrealistic. There is a high chance we will stick with them, although nothing is 100% certain.”

The Formula 1 world is abuzz with speculation and anticipation as the sport prepares for a potential shake-up in the driver market. With Horner’s departure and Verstappen’s future hanging in the balance, all eyes are on the upcoming seasons to see how these developments will unfold. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving saga.
