Wolff critica teóricos sem inteligência.

2024 Spanish Grand Prix, Sunday - Jiri Krenek

Spanish Grand Prix 2024, Sunday – Jiri Krenek

During the Formula 1 weekend in Barcelona, a story emerged about an anonymous email alleging that Mercedes was intentionally hindering Hamilton’s campaign in 2024. The email, supposedly sent by a Mercedes employee, claimed that the team was showing favoritism towards young British driver, George Russell, who had been outperforming Hamilton in 2024. However, in Barcelona, Hamilton had a better weekend, surpassing Russell in the rankings and implementing a more effective race strategy. This resulted in the seven-time F1 champion finishing in third place, securing his first podium in 2024, while Russell finished fourth.

After the race, Wolff, the head of Mercedes, spoke to the media, including GrandPrix247, and was asked if Hamilton’s podium would eliminate the conspiracy theories. He responded by expressing his lack of respect for conspiracy theorists, stating that they lacked intelligence. He emphasized that the team’s goal is to have a car that wins races and championships, and anyone who doesn’t understand that should watch a different sport. Wolff also acknowledged that it was satisfying to see Hamilton have a successful weekend after facing challenges in previous races.

Regarding the tension between Russell and Hamilton during qualifying, Wolff acknowledged the rivalry between the two drivers, but insisted that they have a respectful relationship. He emphasized the team’s transparency and commitment to preventing animosity from growing.

The race in Barcelona highlighted the dominance of Red Bull Racing and McLaren, with Lando Norris securing pole position, just 0.020s ahead of Max Verstappen. Hamilton, on the other hand, qualified in third place, over three tenths of a second behind Norris. In the race, Verstappen emerged as the winner, with Norris finishing just over two seconds behind him. Hamilton was even further behind, over 15 seconds behind the leaders, but still managed to secure a place on the podium in third.

Despite the difference between Mercedes and the leading teams, Wolff remains cautiously optimistic. He acknowledged that the team made some strategic mistakes, such as the wrong tire choice for Russell and a slow pit stop. However, he highlighted that the gap between Hamilton and the leaders was reduced when considering the pace adopted towards the end of the race. Wolff also pointed out that the leading teams, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, were not holding the pace, indicating that Mercedes has the potential to close the gap and compete for wins.

In the 2024 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes currently sits in fourth place with 151 points, trailing McLaren by 86 points.
