Williams revela chocante confissão sobre carro pesado de 2024 da Fórmula 1.

Alexander Albon from Williams Racing participated in the Formula 1 World Championship, Rd 6, Miami Grand Prix in Miami, Florida, USA on May 5, 2024.

In an attempt to improve performance, Williams Racing will take measures starting from the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix to reduce the weight of their 2024 Formula 1 car. This weight reduction is estimated to result in a time improvement of 0.45 seconds per lap.

The Grove team faced challenges at the beginning of the season, not scoring points in the first six races. Further complicating things is the lack of a spare chassis. Despite tight construction deadlines, Williams managed to build the FW46, but it came with a significant weight problem.

To solve this issue, Williams decided to add extra weight to other areas of the car, ensuring it remained within regulations. However, this compromise resulted in a slower lap time of four and a half tenths compared to the previous year.

Team principal James Vowles explained that the team has already started implementing lighter parts on Alex Albon’s car in Imola to kickstart the process of reducing excess weight. The goal is to bring the car back to its optimal performance level.

Vowles shared that the team successfully removed 14 kilograms from the chassis during the transformation from 2023 to 2024. However, due to the additional weight added, the car is still overweight, affecting its lap times.

He further explained that adding weight is a common solution when facing development delays. Despite the setback, Vowles expressed confidence in the team’s ability to improve the car’s performance.

In previous races, Albon had been frustrated with the car’s performance but was unable to express his concerns publicly. Vowles acknowledged this and stated that he wanted to take this opportunity to address the issue and outline the team’s plans for improvements.

Looking ahead, the team is focused on reducing the weight of the car in the next six races. The weight reduction process will be a priority to bring the car back to its ideal performance level.

Vowles admitted that there are no guarantees that the team will meet the minimum weight limit of 798kg by the end of the six-race deadline, which includes their home race at Silverstone. However, the team is committed to making the necessary improvements to achieve their goals.
