The continuation of Mercedes as the supplier of power units to Williams until 2030 has been confirmed. The partnership began in 2014 and was renewed for the first years of the new era of power units, between 2026 and 2030.
The synergies between the teams have gone beyond the technical aspect of engine supply: from the Grove training to the Mercedes factory team, drivers Valtteri Bottas and George Russell have already emerged – the latter was even loaned for his adaptation to the premier category between 2019 and 2021.
James Vowles – who left Mercedes last year to become team principal of Williams – stated in a statement: ‘We have enjoyed a long-term partnership with Mercedes-Benz and we are excited to extend this collaboration into the next era of Formula 1. The expertise, support, and technology that Mercedes brings align perfectly with the aspirations of our team in the medium and long term. This long-term agreement with Mercedes is a positive step and is part of our goals for the future, while still maintaining our in-house design and manufacturing capabilities’.
