Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton continues to be one of the biggest names in motorsport, and as he heads into the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, he’s got some star-studded support behind him. Hollywood superstar Will Smith, a longtime fan of Hamilton, has publicly thrown his backing behind the Mercedes driver, anticipating a strong race from the British legend in Baku.
Smith, known for his unwavering support of Hamilton over the years, believes the 39-year-old will deliver a standout performance, despite a disappointing qualifying session that sees him start from P7 on the grid. Hamilton’s fans, including Smith, are hoping for a recovery drive from the Mercedes driver on the streets of Baku, where overtaking opportunities exist but remain tricky.
Hamilton, widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in F1 history with seven world titles to his name, will be looking to put his recent struggles behind him. Since the F1 season resumed after the summer break, Hamilton has struggled to find the right balance with the Mercedes W15, particularly in qualifying, where issues with tyre temperatures have consistently hindered his performance.
In Azerbaijan, Hamilton admitted that once again, getting the tyres into the right operating window was the main issue during qualifying, which ultimately cost him a shot at the front row. After the session, he candidly stated:
“That was 100% the issue,” expressing his frustration as the team continues to grapple with tyre management challenges.
While Mercedes has struggled to consistently compete at the front, the team remains hopeful for Sunday’s 51-lap race. The W15 has shown impressive straight-line speed, which could prove crucial in Baku, known for its high-speed sections and overtaking opportunities. Hamilton’s ability to manage his tyres and make up positions will be key as he fights to improve on his P7 starting position.
As the race approaches, all eyes will be on Hamilton to see if he can turn around his fortunes in Baku and deliver the strong performance his supporters, including Will Smith, are hoping for.
Can Hamilton make a charge from the midfield to the podium? We’ll find out on Sunday.
