Wickens Dominates GTD Practice, Facing Drama and Red Flags at Long Beach IMSA Session

#36: DXDT Racing, Corvette Z06 GT3.R, GTD: Robert Wickens, Tommy Milner

In an electrifying display of skill and determination, Robert Wickens has taken the GTD class by storm in the latest IMSA practice session at Long Beach. Despite facing some challenges during Practice 2, Wickens managed to dominate the track and secure the fastest time in his division.

Behind the wheel of the No. 36 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R, Wickens showcased his prowess by setting an impressive lap time of 1m17.891s, solidifying his position at the top of the GTD leaderboard. However, a minor setback occurred when Wickens went off track towards the end of Shoreline Drive, prompting a red flag situation and affecting his Qualifying prospects.

Despite the hiccup, Wickens demonstrated remarkable improvement from his previous performance in Practice 1 earlier in the day. With 34 laps under his belt, the Canadian driver showed a remarkable improvement of over 2.5 seconds, proving his adaptability and skill on the track.

In the GTP class, the BMW M Team RLL continued to showcase their dominance, with Dries Vanthoor leading the pack in the No. 24 BMW. The intense competition saw Sheldon van der Linde in the No. 25 BMW closely trailing Vanthoor, setting the stage for an exhilarating battle in the upcoming sessions.

As the practice session unfolded, several red flags were raised due to incidents involving various drivers, adding an extra layer of intensity to the proceedings. Despite the challenges faced by some competitors, the determination and competitive spirit on display were truly commendable.

The stage is set for an action-packed Qualifying session, where drivers will push themselves to the limit in pursuit of pole position. With the competition heating up and tensions running high, the Long Beach circuit promises to deliver thrilling racing moments that will keep fans on the edge of their seats.
