In Formula 1, if a driver accumulates 12 penalty points, they will be banned from participating in at least one grand prix. Just like driving on public roads, Formula 1 drivers must adhere to regulations, otherwise they will face consequences. During each race, stewards have the authority to apply various penalties, such as warnings, fines, grid position drop penalties, in-race time penalties, and drive-through penalties, to discipline drivers in any session. However, in addition to these on-track penalties, drivers can also receive what is known as ‘penalty points’. These points remain on a driver’s license for a period of 12 months and if they accumulate 12 points, they will be prevented from participating in the next event. Keeping track of penalty points can be challenging, so here is an overview of the number of points each F1 driver currently has. This list will be continuously updated during the 2024 F1 season.
