KGM (KG Mobility) entered the national market in 2024 with a varied range, highlighting SUV models and a pick-up with a Diesel engine. However, the brand has now invested in a compact electric pick-up, inspired by an SUV, which promises to please those who enjoy outdoor adventures.

The Musso EV is the first fully electric pick-up to be marketed by the brand imported to Portugal by Astara, sharing the same platform as the Torres EVX SUV.

It shares the platform with the Torres EVX, combining driving efficiency with the comfort and sophistication of an SUV and the robustness characteristic of this category of pick-up.

Aggressive and muscular design

The sculpted hood, the exclusive full LED lighting design, and the bulky bumpers are elements that combine to blend modernity with the authenticity of a pick-up, giving it an imposing yet contemporary style.

In order to meet various usage requirements, whether for work or leisure, the new Musso EV is available in versions with 4×2 (front) or 4×4 traction.

For the high level of comfort and behavior on the road or on dirt roads, the Musso EV utilizes a rear axle with multilink suspension.

Two levels of engine and one battery

In terms of engine, KGM’s 100% electric pick-up is equipped with a 207 hp motor and 339 Nm of torque, to which, in the case of the all-wheel-drive variant, another motor of equal power is coupled to the rear axle, allowing for a combined power of 237 hp and a maximum torque of 630 Nm.

Powering the electric motor is a state-of-the-art LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery with 80.6 kWh, which can be charged in about 10h20m at alternating current at an 11 kW station and recovers between 10% to 80% of its capacity in 36 minutes at a direct current charging point with a power of 300 kW.

The maximum range is 420 km for the front-wheel-drive version, while the all-wheel-drive version claims a range of up to 379 km.

The intelligent regenerative braking system contributes to increasing energy efficiency by automatically adjusting this function based on the speed of the vehicle ahead and the road gradient, allowing its level of operation to be regulated through paddles on the steering wheel.

Spacious and technological interior

The cabin of the new Musso EV is what brings the pickup closest to an SUV, due to its sophistication, advanced technology, and the onboard environment that demonstrates a good level, despite many plastic finishes, with solid assembly, and space and comfort for all occupants.

Highlight for the large panoramic screen, which includes a 12.3’’ instrument panel and a screen dedicated to navigation and infotainment of the same size.

The biggest attraction of the cabin is indeed the space available for the second-row passengers, which ensures comfort and ample space, similar to that of a family SUV. Additionally, there is legroom and headroom even for taller passengers.

In addition, the list of standard equipment is extensive, with the entry-level K3 featuring, among others, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, wireless smartphone charger, two USB-C ports, rain and light sensors, keyless access and start, and a V2L (“Vehicle-to-Load”) system, which allows for providing electrical power to other devices from the vehicle.

The top-of-the-line variant, K5, which we drove during the presentation of the new electric pickup, adds a 3D monitoring system for the exterior area and floor observation, a heated steering wheel, seats covered in fabric and synthetic leather, driver and passenger seats with eight-way electric adjustment, heated and ventilated, among others.

As a compact pickup, the Musso EV is far from exhibiting performance levels of a full-sized pickup. With a wheelbase of 3.15 meters and a length of 5.16 meters, it can be somewhat inconvenient for parking in a city apartment; the 100% electric pickup from KGM has a capacity to transport 907 liters of cargo and a maximum payload of 500 kg in the 4X4 version.

Its ground clearance, lower than that of a normal pickup, distances the model from more extreme off-road adventures, but it does not prevent it from showing a good level of performance on less winding dirt surfaces.

Behind the wheel

Sitting behind the wheel, we easily find a comfortable driving position that allows us to access all the necessary controls for a smooth journey, as pressing the Start/Stop button produces no noise, which is typical of electric models.

However, when pressing the accelerator pedal firmly, it is easy to notice that the torque quickly does its job, and the 237 hp of the all-wheel-drive version we tested make the Musso EV brisk.

On the highway, the KGM pick-up produces some wind noise, largely due to the large side mirrors, but it exhibited quite smooth steering, albeit with a certain weight, reminding us that we are driving a pick-up. Additionally, the maneuverability and ease of driving in an urban environment give it a versatile personality.

On first contact with the Musso EV, we took the pick-up to a dirt road, where it showed great ease in handling areas with more degraded surfaces, benefiting from the good behavior of the suspension, which proved to be a pleasant surprise.
