Kyle Busch made significant changes in his career and involvement in the sport during the 2023 NASCAR season. After 15 years with JGR, the two-time Cup champion joined Richard Childress Racing. Additionally, he sold the assets of his Truck Series team, KBM, to Spire Motorsports, marking the end of his iconic era.
The decision to sell the team surprised many in the sport. It was expected that Busch would keep the team until his son, Brexton, reached the Truck Series. However, Busch stated that being the boss of KBM was a distraction for him during a challenging time at the top. Selling the team was a way to eliminate that distraction.
Despite the strange feeling of returning to the workshop, now owned by Spire, for his part-time races in the Truck Series, Busch has no regrets about selling KBM. He emphasized that KBM still exists in the race shop for Brexton’s junior racing adventures and how much easier it is to manage the team now with just three employees.
Busch acknowledged the challenges of leading a NASCAR team, describing it as a headache and a highly stressful job. He expressed relief at no longer having to worry about keeping everyone happy and employed. Instead, he is focused on building his son’s future in a different way and striving to maintain his 20-year winning streak in the Cup.
